Many areas of North America are being heavily hunted for a limited number of Black Bear and the average spring bear taken is probably a 125 Lb. second year male. On the island of Newfoundland this is not the case. This area has seen little hunting pressure and as a result the bear are more likely to reach trophy proportions.

HUGE NEWFOUNDLAND BLACK BEAR - TWIN LAKES

The island of Newfoundland has some of the largest Black Bear found anywhere in the world. The government has live trapped bears of 687 and 700 Lbs. Bears in the 400-500 Lb. range are not uncommon. Few residents bother to hunt this species and it is only now becoming popular with outsiders because of all the positive publicity and hunting articles being written. Consider Newfoundland for your Black Bear of a lifetime using rifle, blackpowder or a bow.

The Lodge is remotely located on the northwest shore of beautiful South Twin Lake and only sees hunting pressure from the very few guests who bear hunt there each spring. This area also boasts a 96% success rate for it's fall moose hunt. Bear can also be combined with moose during the early weeks of the fall hunt. Fishing for native brook trout and landlocked salmon is possible on the spring hunt. This hunt is limited to just 4 hunts per week during June.

MITCHELL'S POND HUNT

This hunt is located in Management Area 8, a convenient one hour drive from the Newfoundland ferry terminal at Port aux Basques and only a one half hour drive from the Stephenville Airport. The area has an abundant population of bear and receives very little hunting pressure. The success rate here is always close to 100%. Hunting is done over baits with excellent opportunities for bow, blackpowder and rifle hunters. A professional taxidermist is on staff and bear trophies can be preserved for shipment or handled any way the client wishes. The main lodge is accessible by truck and can take six hunters. Bears exceeding 500 Lbs. were taken here in 1998, 1999 & 2000. This outfit specializes in bear hunts and nobody does it better! New areas are also being scouted for this years hunt.

The package includes: guide, transportation (truck & ATV), airport pick-up, meals, lodging, license and all taxes.
